Rey, whose more complete name is Jose Reynaldo Zuniga Rodriguez, is a local anthropologist who has worked and studied for more than 4 years with traditional Mayan healers. He is a very nice and gentle guy and can speak English as well as Spanish and Mayan.
The Maya for thousands of years have used their version of massage to bring peace to the human body. Just like early cultures of Asia, the Maya perceive that stress and injury block the natural and healthy flow of the body's energies at strategic points. This system of strategic points governing the flow of the body's energy is known to them as the Nab. You may have some sense of this viewpoint from prior knowledge of the Chakras that are the focus of Asian spiritual and physical concern. Whether neurologically quantifiable or not, and we rather suspect they are, Rey's massage is great. The massage lasts two hours and this duration is what is required from a Mayan perspective to bring peace and wholeness to you. Most probably you will nod off during it. It is as appropriate for you as it would be for your grandmother.
The cost of this two hour massage is 600 pesos payable to Rey. He is not a businessman and he views his work as the distribution of a gift. Please do not suppose there is anything spiritually exotic about his massage. Happily it is the sensitive and skilled usage of very ancient techniques to bring you back to you. It is highly recommended based upon our own personal experience as well as the experience of our guests regardless of gender.
